One way to reduce your carbon footprint is to reduce your waste, and this includes reducing your e-waste e.g. your old mobile phones.
There is some interesting information out there about mobile phones becoming more ‘eco-friendly’, and it does look like phone manufacturers are taking this seriously. Reducing your carbon footprint includes making smarter purchasing decisions. Read ZDNet’s article on “The Best Green Phones”. Phones such as those from Shiftphones (available in NZ), and Fairphone, have modular systems - meaning parts are easily upgraded and repaired yourself - therefore reducing the need to completely change your phone when you would like to upgrade.
If you have already upgraded your phone and you are not sure what to do with your old phone, then head over to Re:mobile and have a read about how you can recycle your mobile phone with Re:mobile.
“When you recycle your mobile phone with RE:MOBILE over 95 percent of the materials that make up your mobile phone will be reused”.
