Ag Matters have highlighted the benefits of developing a farm environmental plan with their case study on Pukekauri Farm. Biodiversity, sediment control, and carbon sequestration are all benefits of developing a farm environmental plan. Rick Burke and Jan Loney have been working hard to improve the environment on their farm, and are pleased with the result - the stream health on their property has increased from a 2/10 to 9/10.
Between 1998 and 2021, Pukekauri Farm have reduced their GHG emissions by over 50%, which will give them significant advantages considering the new He Waka Eke Noa regulations. They reduced their emissions by taking action on their farm; reducing the amount of dry matter eaten, improving feed efficiency, finishing livestock faster, reducing nitrogen fertilisers, and by planting trees.
